Rule of Thirds Research

The Rule of Thirds is commonly used in visual arts, such as, photgraphy and design. The grid is used to differentiate the points of heightened tension and energy, inwhich, the human eye would naturally and automatically direct its focus to. Before, I started on my Digipak design, I observed a few examples of these grids that were placed with images, to get an idea of what would be the best way to compose and organise the elements, in my Digipak. Below, I have roughly marked out a grid for the front panels of my digipak and will explain why I have composed the objects, as they are.

The Red circles indicate that this place would be where the eye would focus at first, therefore, I believe as my priority is to sell the Artist. I placed him at those points for the front and back panel. The Green circles, indicates that this is where light is focused, so the light from the buildings and the river, I thought was this was the best place to assert them. As one can see, I have a clean and neat structure to my Digipak cover, as I placed the text, well out of the way from the images, to give a sense of division and a easy understanding, this is higlighted in the Orange box.
