Abde: Ancillary Research

I had this idea in the back of my head that i want to share, even though its not an albumit a film i realy like the poster and its cover, so i thought this suits our genre it more or less relates to my auidence so i thought why not it looks realy good i like the fact it shows different charcters were i can use different characters of Rhyme Royale being the ghetto child, ladys man and the wealth hero. Here it is from the film Hustle and Flow: it looks great.......

Ancillary checklist

We had to make Digipak and advertisement for our music video.
We have to make album  for Rhyme Royale i have some ideas but i am going to some research
and see the best option.
Also, were making a poster to advertise our albums and we have follow strict rules and have the same concept throughout the group ancillary project.

First attempt of a practice digipak.

This is my first attempt on doing a digipak, I used a certain tool within photoshop to crop DAN out of the background, used a blur and smudge effect to get rid of the while outline of this image. I stuck by the comments my teachers gave me about a contrasting background compared to the font, they must be large and bold. And I made sure to keep the same font, include websites, and record label and bar code and the play list on the back. However I would improve this buy adding special effects on the back or a image but slightly transparent behind the text so it doesn't look to bland and boring. The actual album names has a different colour there's only 2 colour so it tends to stand out.

Design activity Digi pak

First attempt on designing a digipak using a template and artist  provided. Dan the teacher.
This is our tutorial using photoshop Quarkxpress to creating a digipak.

Evaluation work!

The Martiniques:
Digipak strength: Keeps a consistant red theme, have nice large pictures.
Digipak weakness: Quite a few different fonts and colour, making it quite confusing.
Advertisement strength: Full length body images, very large and stands out.
Advertisement weakness: Doesn't tell you where the the tour venue is.

Stephanie Jackson:

Digipak strength: Consistant colours and tint very professional.
Digipak weakness: Small fonts, not clear who the artist really is.
Advertisement strength: Nice large image at the front & large font.
Advertisement weakness: No digipak image, no album name.

Y.SHOCKER:

Digipak strength: Consistant colours & edits.
Digipak weakness: Font hard to read. To simple.
Advertisement strength: Website names.
Advertisement weakness: Different font colour.

Examining Previous Ancillary Work

Strengths of Poster:
  • The sepia tones are really effective, in suggesting the genre and provides a classy and glossy effect.
  • The edit of the 'torn' section of the poster is effective.
  • The font of the poster is the same, which keeps the simplicity of the poster.
  • In addition, the photography was excellently conducted.
  • Record label and social networks mentioned.
Weaknesses of Poster:
  • No reference of the album title.
  • Not much information, such as, reviews or tour dates etc.
  • No information about where to download or purchase album from.
  • Stephanie Jackson should be the larger than the new album text.

Strengths of Digipak:

  • The sepia tone is consistent throughout.
  • The photography once again is of a high quality.
  • Most of the components and logos are incorporated in the album.
  • The text Rumors goes across the CD part, which looks great.
Weaknesses of Digipak:
  • The word 'rumors' is spelt wrong!
  • There are 3 different hairstyles that are present on the artist, which suggests that there are three different people.
  • The sepia tone sometimes makes it feel too vintage and this may have conflicted with the initial conventions of the genre they wanted to do.

Strengths of Digipak:

  • The graphic design is well done, there is evidence of the use of photoshop.
  • The waves are in reference to the idea of 'journey'.
The theme is consistant and the 'Grace' catches your attention, rule of thirds was considered.
Weaknesses of Digipak: Appears to be too simplistic for my liking, theres nothing that is eye catching, possibly and image or a better graphic could have been used. The font could have been a slight larger, to make it easier on the eye.
    Poster:

    Strengths:
The same concept has been followed on from the album.
    Includes the album cover.
Proportions are well presented, easy on the eye.

    Weaknesses:
Grey connotes dull and miserable tones, not really the right colour scheme for the poster.
The space feels a little empty around the edges.

Strengths:  The colour scheme and the effects were used well, it creates an emotion of mystery.

The font in capitals show that this is important.

The photography is superb and the way its used to portray different emotions,
    in the panels is excellent

Weaknesses: The effect in one of the panels looks like it was over done.

The font does conflict with the emotion of the artist, as she is smiling.

The font size for 'new album' and release date is too small!
