Research for Music Video: State of the music industry in 2012

What I've learnt about the music industry in 2011/2012 is that, the percentage of buying Album Cd's have dropped, due to the increased rate and popularity of illegal downloading, which has put the music industry in a difficult situation. However they have counteracted this by selling merchandise such as T-shirts and jewellery and tickets to concerts and gigs, which generate the revenue. The way they gain their money is through advertising through youtube and the VEVO channel, and also by using Facebook and Twitter and creating fan pages, this creates a greater fan base and help allow spread a viral video when it comes out encouraging people to attend to concerts.

Another thing which has happened in the current music industry is that many unsigned artist can get their videos up and going from the technology up at home and upload it onto youtube for views and to create a fan base, the most successful  was Lilly Alen and Justin beiber.
