Research: Vernalis's theory

Carol Vernallis compared editing and camerawork to films and music videos. She found that edits in music video come more often then in films, she connected the editing count to the song which suggested its a form of disjuncture.
Here main 5 points she found:

  • Jump cut come most often
  • Base track is repeatedly used  to give the video structure
  • There is movement in camera with music
  • Transition are used in edits like swipe and special effects just to draw attention
  • To make a video more interesting and to keep attention the broke the "continuity" rule in editing.
