Research: Laura Mulvey's

Laura Mulvey's theory was "In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasue in looking has been split between active/male and passive/female. The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly". 

Mulvey in terms this means that gender plays role which differs in role of male and female, so male play more of an active role and female play a passive role. Also, the male gaze is women shown as sexual objects for male fantasy this can be referred to certain genres like hip/hop and R&B.
